What is a Heavens to Betsy Illustration?

Each illustration is drawn by hand in pencil, using your chosen photograph as reference.

Once the drawing is complete, I then work on it digitally to create the Heavens to Betsy signature style.

If you have opted for colour, this is created with a carefully selected array of hand painted backgrounds and textures, that are customised specifically to your order.

Every detail and colour is applied separately and shaded by hand.

No filters are used!

All final artworks are giclee, fine art prints, signed by hand.

How do I order?

Select your favourite photo and email it to: nancy@designeranimator.com

Having trouble deciding? Not a problem! Simply email me a selection of your top pics and I can help you decide on which would work best. We will need to use as high resolution as possible with as little blur as possible, particularly where faces are concerned.
Refer to the pricelist for an accurate quote by choosing which portrait style applies, and which style of illustration you would like:

The Portrait Style will either be *Candid or *Traditional

The Illustration Style will either be Black and White or Colour
Based on your selected image, a confirmation of the commission fee will be emailed to you.

You are under no obligation to go ahead with your order until you have received and confirmed after this stage.
I need to cancel my order, is this possible?

There’s a 5 day period once you’ve confirmed your order, to cancel without any fee being incurred.

After this time, there’s a likelihood that work would have started on the commission and therefore it wouldn’t be possible to cancel.

How long will my order take?

Depending on the waiting list at the time, illustrations usually take between 2-4 weeks to complete.

How do I pay?

Once your order is confirmed and the illustration completed, you will be emailed a low res proof for your approval. It is an ideal chance to feedback should there be anything that you’re unhappy with.

On approval, you will receive an invoice for the total order amount.

This must be paid via your regular bank transfer method, before your order can be prepared for print and posted out to you.

What will I receive?

All prints are supplied in a protective folder and are ready for you to frame. If you have a specific frame in mind, please do send me the frame and mount dimensions so that I can print your order accordingly for you.

I would like more than one illustration, are there special offers for this?

Absolutely, I would be more than happy to work out a price for a selection of illustrations that form one order together. Please do feel free to contact me with your requests and we can work out a great package!

I have more than one child, but don’t have them in a photo together.

Can you put them into one illustration?

Yes this is possible! I’m more than happy to tailor make compositions depending on your requirements. It is not always possible depending on the angle that the children are photographed from, but often it is possible, so please feel free to get in touch with examples or questions.

Happily ever after….

Once you’ve received your order, you will have a moment to cherish forever, that is totally unique and personal to you.

A story that may otherwise have never been shared with your friends or family, a piece of handcrafted artwork for your children to look back on, and something to make you smile however grown up your children are!

   *Candid Portrait:

Where the subject is engaged in an activity or generally unaware that the photo has been taken.

Their faces will be either side on or facing away from the camera.

Often the illustrations with the most dreamlike qualities have the child/ children facing away from the camera.

The Heavens to Betsy approach often lends itself more favourably to this style of piece.
   *Traditional Portrait:

In contrast to a candid portrait, this is where the child is facing directly or 3/4s to camera.

A traditional portrait requires a longer amount of time to ensure that a likeness of features is achieved.

The price reflects the additional line work overall and, with a colour piece, further detail to the shading.

All copyright of artwork retained by Heavens to Betsy Illustrations. The illustrations must not be reproduced and distributed for resale. If you would like to print a set of cards using your commissioned image, for personal use only and not for resale, then please contact Heavens to Betsy illustrator, Nancy Ellis, to discuss this option and refer to the pricelist for more info.
